The United Nations is marking its 75th anniversary at a time of great challenge. Covid-19 is a stark reminder of the need for cooperation across borders, sectors and generations.

The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has said, “Everything we do during and after this crisis must be with a strong focus on building more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that are more resilient in the face of pandemics, climate change and the many other global challenges we face.”

On the heels of the UN75 celebration, a young Ghanaian CEO, Mr. John Aggrey, Founder of HIRED Consult held a UN75 Dialogue on the theme, “Youth Voices”. Mr. Aggrey is a versatile multi-sectorial personality with experiences in the fields of Business Development, Communications, Diplomacy, Consultancy, SDGs Advocacy and Project Management. He is also the Vice President of HIRED Project USA.

The webinar was well attended and had rounded Panelists such as Madam Lilian Sally Addo, Country Head of United Nations Youth Association – Ghana (UNYA-GH), Evangelist Patrick Safo Director of Operations for UNYA-GH, Raymond Matlala, Founder and Chairman of South African BRICS Youth Association, Akan James Chairperson Agenda 2063 Committee of Democracy Africa Youth Parliament, Ambassador Fawad Ali Langah, who is an SDG Advocate, Life Coach and experienced MUN Trainer and three members of Voices On The Mount Youth Empowerment Movement; Obed Rocky Dadzie (Founder), Fatima-Zahra Kassim (Global Ambassador) and Isabel Amihere (Pan Africanist).

The Dialogue was in support of ongoing United Nations activities of open discussions to its operations and way forward. The webinar centred on “our responses to determine how fast the world recovers, whether we achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and how well we handle the global trends shaping our future, from climate change to new technologies”. Questions under discussion included:
Do you think people in 2045 will be better off than, worse off than or about the same as today?
What do you most want to see in the year 2045 when the UN will turn 100?
What would you advise the UN to do to address these challenges?
What should the international community prioritize to recover better from the pandemic?

2020 must be a year when we all come together, as a global family, to discuss how we can work together more effectively to manage these issues. Mr. Aggrey who is a strong advocate for Youth and inclusive participation of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) stressed on existing protocols and reiterated the statement, “It is vital that your voice is heard at this crucial time for the world. Each conversation is an opportunity to encourage individuals to take actions in their own lives in line with what they have heard and learned”. Under the auspices of HIRED Consult, Mr. Aggrey has held and moderated notable UN International side events such as World Environment Day, World Oceans Day, and World Refugees Day.
