KISOMO APP TO KEEP STUDENTS LEARNING IN ISOLATION- COVID SPECIFIC RESPONSE WITH CONSIDERATIONS TO THE SPECIAL GROUPS AS HEARING AND VISION IMPAIRED LEARNERS

COVID-19 has challenged the education systems in Africa, as of now more than 2.2 Million students in secondary school are in a risk of missing out their studies due to lockdown and school closure. These learners need an immediate, reliable, and easy to use digital learning solution to support self-study while remaining safe in isolations.

KISOMO SMARTLEARN
Kisomo is a digital learning platform that provides access to curricula based, interactive, curated, and locally relevant digital learning content which is in the form of Real-life HD Videos, Animations, and Interactive Quizzes to 2.2 Million secondary school learners in Tanzania. Kisomo bridges the gap in the Secondary Education System in Tanzania and helps students to fall in love with what they learn through videos, animations, and interactive content while staying at home.

KISOMO APP – COVID SPECIFIC RESPONSE
With more than 116,000 users base, and in response to COVID-19 we recently launched Kisomo App, an easy to use mobile application with 1000+ interactive, curricula based, curated and 100% locally relevant digital learning content in form of Real-life HD Videos, Animations and Visual Illustration to 2.2 Million secondary school’s learners across Tanzania and beyond. The created content also put consideration to the special groups of learners such as Blind learners and hearing impaired learners.

The innovation helps these special group of learners by including diverse content options such as special Audio-based content for Blind learners and Self Explanatory Visual content with supported subtitles for hearing impaired learners. Since launching Kisomo attracted hundreds of new users within the first week of launching with an average of 400 active users per day and rapidly growing. Our target is to help 20,000 students to keep learning in the next 6 months.

NOTED IMPACT
Kisomo App will provide an opportunity for secondary school learners across Tanzania to stay safe from COVID-19 by accessing all their learning need online. Other immediate impacts of our solution include; The overall improved learning experience for our users which in returns increases the academic performance of individual learners in secondary schools across East Africa.
