Under the auspices of the US Embassy in Ghana, YALI TV with support from the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has selected 26 Journalists and media professionals from across the country for a project dubbed the Media Capacity Building Initiative for Reporting on Disability. The project’s goal is to provide journalists with training, guidance, and resources on how to report and promote fact-based, objective, and impactful media content on people with disabilities through digital, print, and broadcast media.

This specialized training will happen on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd December 2021 at the Executive Conference Center, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Green Hill, with the closing ceremony dubbed “Media for Disability Awards & Dinner” at 5:30 pm with the US Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Stephanie S. Sullivan and the Minister of Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, as a special guests of honour.

Some of the facilitators for the program include Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo (Senior Lecturer, University of Ghana), Dr. Felix Dela Klutse (Renowned Journalist and Advisory Board member of YALI TV)), Esther Cobbah (CEO, Stratcomm Africa), and Philip Osei Bonsu (Asempa FM), Mr. Philip Acquaye (Senior Lecturer, BlueCrest University College). Other speakers and contributors include Affail Monney (President, Ghana Journalists Association), Dr. Annan Agrawal (Rector, BlueCrest University College), Kevin Brosnahan (Press Attache, US Embassy in Ghana), Linda Asante-Agyei (Vice President, Ghana Journalists Association), and Sultan Ahmed Nii Nortey (President, Ga-Dagnme Muslim Council) with Nana Kwesi Coomson and Josephine Offei from YALI TV being the moderators of the program. MCBIRD is a partnership initiative led by YALI TV with support from the US Embassy in Ghana, Ghana Journalists Association, the National Center for Disability Journalism, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University, and BlueCrest University College. The Limitless Foundation a Ghana based advocacy and support organization for people living with disabilities has joined the program as a sponsor.
